As a young woman who grew up in the foster care system, Onyx King is a is a survivor of childhood emotional, physical, spiritual, and sexual abuse. King shared that she escaped emotional pain and traumatic environments through reading, prayer, and help from culturally relevant mental health professionals. After spending an extended period of her life in Federal Prison, she was released and began to rebuild her life. King credits Revelation 12: 11, “We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of testimony” as one of the foundational scriptures that motivated her to succeed against insurmountable odds.
